Within the last year, my oldest son has become a big fan of Pokémon! Having a Pokémon fan in the house is nostalgic, as I remember when Pokémon first came out and I was an immediate fan of the trading card game! My son recently celebrated his 6th birthday and Pokémon was a major theme for his gifts! In honor of his sixth birthday, below I have include 6 gift ideas for a Pokémon fan. These are items he received for his birthday, already owned or were on his wish list!

Pokémon Battle Academy Board Game
If you have a child interested in learning how to play the Pokémon Trading Card Game, this game is for you! This game includes everything that two players need to play, including 3 complete Pokémon Trading Card Game decks and a game board to make it easy to learn to play. When you are first starting out, you follow the game’s directions step-by-step, as the game takes you through which cards to play, which moves to make and how the game play works on each turn. Once you become familiar with the basic gameplay of the Pokémon Trading Card Game, the players can use the included card decks (or make their own decks from other Pokémon cards they own) and continue playing the official Pokémon Card Game. While the included game board is not required to play the Pokémon Trading Card Game, it really helps beginner players to know where the cards go in the playing space. As players get more familiar with the game play and game setup, they will be able to transition to playing without the game board space!
Charizard Interactive Figurine
This 7-inch Charizard figurine was one of the gifts my son received for his birthday. It was an immediate hit! With the push of a button, the Charizard figurine can make noise, the fire tail lights up and the wings move. It also includes three flames that you can shoot out of Charizard’s mouth. This set includes a bonus figurine: Pikachu, a favorite from the Pokémon franchise.
Carry ‘n Go Playset
This playset is a must-have for Pokémon lovers who love small world or imaginative play. The playset includes a volcano, beach and jungle scene with hidden Pokémon that “pop-out” of the scene (including a pair of Digletts and an Exeggutor). The entire playset scene folds up into a small bag with a strap, making it easy to take this Pokémon playset on-the-go. The carry ‘n go aspect of this toy was a big hit with my 6-year-old! He loves being able to fold up the playset to move it from room-to-room in the house and he has even taken the playset with us on weekend trips! The set also includes four stand alone figurines that you can include in play alongside the playset or you can play with the figurines on their own.
Pokémon Battle Figurines
The Pokémon Battle Figurines are the perfect addition to any Pokémon lover’s collection. There are multiple Battle Figurine sets available (that offer a wide selection of popular Pokémon characters), but I particularly like the one linked below for a child just starting their collection, because it includes four nostalgic Pokémon characters: Squirtle, Bulbasaur, Charmander and Pikachu. These figurines are a great open-ended toy that children can use alongside other toys (like building blocks) or play with outside to create their own “Pokémon Worlds”. These are also small enough that a child can easily carry one or two with them in the car or to a restaurant.
Pokémon Mega Bloks
When my kids turned 4-years-old, they immediate fell in love with building bricks, like Legos. If you have child that enjoys Legos and also loves Pokémon, you need to check out Pokémon Mega Bloks! Mega Bloks allow fans to bring their favorite Pokémon character to life in a whole new way. There are multiple Pokémon Mega Bloks sets and likely there will be one featuring your child’s favorite character! The first Pokémon Mega Bloks set that my son received was a Dragonite, but the Pikachu set (linked below) is high on his “wish list”. This poseable Pikachu character is around 4 inches tall and at around $15 (at the time this article was published), it makes a perfect gift! Through the link below, you can find other similar Pokémon Mega Blok sets (at similar price points) featuring other popular Pokémon characters: Bulbasaur, Charizard, Eevee, & Squirtle! I am a big fan of brick sets like the Pokémon Mega Bloks, because building the characters are great at developing fine motor skills and practicing other important skills like following a sequence of directions and problem-solving. Bonus: Mega bloks are compatible with Lego bricks!
Pokémon Art Case
Do you know a Pokémon fan who also loves art? This Art Case would make the perfect gift! It’s around $20 on Amazon (at time this article was published). The set includes Crayola markers and crayons, stickers, three Pokémon characters to color and additional coloring pages. Everything fits into a plastic case that makes it easy to store all of the art supplies!
If you know a child who is a Pokémon fan, I hope you found some inspiration in the list above! Honestly, it was difficult to limit the list to only six items, as there are a lot of great toys out there that would make a great gift for a Pokémon fan!
Here are a few other gift ideas for a Pokémon fan:
1) Who remembers having a Light-Brite as a child? Check out this Light-Brite Pokémon edition, which would make a great gift for a child who enjoys creative play!
2) I know I already included Mega Bloks in my list above, but there are SO MANY great sets, I had to feature one more! There are a series of Mega Blok sets that can all combine together to create a fantastic Pokémon World! The Mega Bloks Countryside Windmill building set is one of those sets! This set has a bonus feature that is sure to delight any young Pokémon fan: the set includes a series of gears, that allows you to turn a knob and create motion within the set! This has become a FAVORITE feature of my 6-year-old, and he is eagerly collecting Mega Blok sets to create an entire scene of moving Pokémon.
3) Do you know a child who enjoys jigsaw puzzles? Try this 300-piece Pokémon Puzzle! This would make a great gift and I love the number of Pokémon who are included in the image of this puzzle.
4) Board games are always a big hit with kids and the Pokémon Labyrinth Board Game by Ravensburger is the perfect game for a Pokémon fan! This game is easy to learn, as players (I’d recommend for kids ages 5+) use strategic thinking to try to be the first player to collect all of their Pokémon! The challenge with this game, is that the path on the board game is constantly changing.
